Where have I been?

I hate to post that as the title, but I can't help doing it. I've been missing for more than a year from this site, and that kills me. I haven't given up writing, I've actually published quite a few stories since the last update in April, 2021, but I didn't end up noting ANYTHING here.

As I said, I hate that.

Thank you all for the time that you take to reach out to me with your questions and comments. Please continue to do that. Writing is rather solitary, and even though I have six kids at home, it can be a bit much solitude at times. And that's coming from someone that prefers solitude.

As for the stories and where things are?

First of all - Shadowmen Chronicles has book two in late editing while waiting for a cover to be designed. I am HOPING to have that one out within the next two weeks. I had been aiming for an August date, but I can't move forward without a cover. The new book will be called Living in the Shadows, and follows Ty on her second year at the academy. Things are progressing and getting more and more dangerous. To the point that she simply didn't appreciate just how precarious her position there at the academy really is.

Other books in the works? I have four books in the Earthbound Demons series that will be coming shortly. I have two covers currently and plan on getting them published in the next week while waiting on the other two.

I have yet more books waiting for final editing and covers. I am hoping to push harder on that front and get more books out there quicker than before.

As for actual writing and not editing and adjusting things already written? I am working on book one in a new series. No book title yet, although the series title is Horrors Within. It follows Tami as she leaves home for the first time to attend a supernatural academy. She's had a tough life. After all, when your own mother attempts to sacrifice you to a daemon for more power and the daemon breaks free, kills your mother, and adopts you, how can your life be normal?

Beyond that, I am going to start the third book in the Shadowmen Chronicles as well as some others that I have staged.

IF YOU FEEL STRONGLY about what book to come out with next/sooner, drop me a note. Who knows, if there's enough push in one direction or another, I may be able to adjust my self-inflicted schedule to accommodate requests.

Update - 4/20/21

Wow, two updates in the same month? I know, right? What's the world coming to?

Okay - first off? Survival, book one in the Sorrowfeld Academy series is available as of today on Amazon. I really like this story. There's something about Maddie that I like. Granted, I like all of my characters, but some resonate  more with me at different times, and Maddie? She's hitting all the spots for me lately.

I have three other books in the series currently either written or planned. Two and three are done, with four about halfway done. I had anticipated this being a trilogy, but her story demanded one more when I realized she wasn't quite done.

I'm hoping you like her.

As for me, personally?  Good old COVID came to visit and stayed a while. We're still in quarantine until this Saturday, but we should be good to go. The symptoms are almost entirely gone in those in the family that got it. Since I have six kids, you know it's been a fun time. Thankfully, no one had to be hospitalized. My wife and oldest daughter got it the worst, with the others being more like...hmm, not even bad cold symptoms. More like weird weak flu symptoms mixed with a cold mixed with allergies. The youngest was in and through so fast that it makes me question it, you know?

Either way, I can't say enough how happy I am that we're almost entirely through.

On the writing front? It's NaNoWriMo camp in April this month, and I'm doing it. I'm nowhere near my normal word count goals, so I'm sad about that, but I will hit my 50k in time. I'm writing book 4 in Sorrowfeld AND writing a book that one of my sons and I came up with. It's also following a girl in a school setting, but it's a YA urban fantasy type story, so it removes the cursing, nudity, and heavy violence. Then again, the main character was raised from infancy to be the best assassin in the world, so there's mayhem on the horizon.

On that note, I think it's time to sign off. I hope everyone has a wonderful day/night. Drop me an email if you'd like? I'd love to chat.  Oh - and forgive any typos above. I'm not feeling the urge to edit, so any mistakes above are purely out of laziness and the need to hit the restroom :)

Late Updates

I swear, when I updated in January I pledged to myself to update more often. Did I?

Not even close.

My apologies to anyone reading this for being late. I'm making an update now because book five in the Learning My Place series was just released this week.  I have book six ready, I'm just waiting on a cover. I also have some books in another series ready to go - also waiting on covers. I'm very scattered, but I'm attempting to get back on track.

Speaking of? NaNoWriMo camp starts today!  I'm taking part, so I am hoping to finish my goal. I'm in the midst of writing a YA book that I worked out a bit of the story line with one of my kids. They seem to like it so far, which I'm taking as a positive sign. It's strange cutting  out things and language that I'd normally include, but I've managed to NOT have the main character cursing up a storm or leaving bodies behind her. Crossing my fingers I can keep that trend alive.

Back to posting? I'm going to work on making more posts. General updates and the like. I haven't been writing a ton as I've worked through editing already written novels, so it tends to mess with my head when I do that. Plus - I struggle with self promotion. I see others doing it and I don't have a problem with it, yet when I go to do it I feel like it's an intrusion. Even if it IS my own site. No idea why. I'm sure I need therapy or something, but that's way down the line of things to worry about in the scheme of things.

Okay, time to skedaddle, I have writing to do in  the YA book, and it won't do itself. Much to my chagrin.

January Already?

Hard to believe it's the middle of January already, yet it is. What a crazy, crazy year it's been all around - but I won't comment on that.

We have a new book, book four in the Learning My Place series - Dual Lessons - just released today on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08T26LTML

This book explores more of Alissa's life and how she's handling being a fledgling vampire and learning what it takes to fit into this world. It also expands her relationship - and then some.  Book five is completed and I'll be requesting work on the cover soon - and  I'm 3/4 of the way through book six. I'm hoping folks like them.

In the meantime, I also published books 2 and 3 in the Still Waters series. The trilogy ends the current arc and it was envisioned as the end of the story, but things changed along the way and I MAY be coming out with additional stories. After all, there are things left to explore, and I rather like the character.

Dark Waters: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08QPTZVJY

Rushing Waters:  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08QNKFGXD

Beyond all of this? I have way more books completed than I can reasonably get out due to cover design delays - but I'm trying. Hopefully folks will like them. In fact, I have a new series surrounding a character that is sent to an academy where power rules, and being murdered by your classmates for your power is a very real danger. Books 1 and 2 are done - I'm editing number 2.  I was tempted to wait for the trilogy to be done, but I may go with the first two while working on some other books and then roll back to 3 and possibly 4.  It may just go for 3, though, and cover the final year and then the additional trial that she'll be faced with. That's not set in stone either way. Yet another character that I like. One that has scars and flaws and isn't perfect - but she does her damnedest to succeed.

Okay, time to sign off and get more editing done - I hope everyone has a fantastic night!

How do you lose 6 months?

I wrote that title, and I'm not sure I can easily explain how or why six months has disappeared.  I would say that I had a ton happening, which is true, but it's more than that.  Let's see:

1.  COVID - Right? It hit everyone, at least pretty much. It didn't crush things for me, thankfully, but it did change how we do things as a family, etc.  None of us have gotten it that we know of, so we feel good about that. No deaths in the family so far. Still, though, it hit things.

2.  Writing and editing.  I've spent a bunch of time writing and editing. I think I finished two books in the meantime and started three others. One cover was designed for a new series - but it's been sitting there for months now.  Mainly due to...honestly? Depression.

3.  Depression. What can I say, it sucks. And no, I'm not talking about a deep, dark depression. Nothing like that. Just...sort of all-encompassing? It started with some negative reviews that I thought were off base. Then some comments on advertising I had done through Facebook. I didn't realize how much they were bothering me. You can't fight back on reviews, you know? So you're just left hanging there with their comments staring at you. Honestly, if people hate the stories and the comments are honest and heartfelt? Good. I want to know where I fall short. The ones that bother me are the ones that I feel are way off base. Or making comments about specific story details that were there ON PURPOSE. Yes, the one series does have a rape culture. That's the freaking point. When you have a world where power rules, what the hell do you think is going to happen? Look at what happens now in this day and age where we don't even have magic? You want to tell me my characters are flat? GOOD, tell me that. I can work on that. But you want to hit me for that? Or sex not belonging in urban fantasy? Umm, really?   UGH, I'm getting annoyed again. What's worse is that I have no idea if I wrote about this earlier. I'm purposefully not going back to prior posts just in case I get triggered more.

Hmmm...okay, enough.  I have 12 or 15 books at the very tail end and ready for publishing. I have to do another read through and final editing and have covers created, then I can get them moving.  I'm hoping to have the first of that group out in the next few days. For now, I'm going to be running a free offer on Breaking Barriers to see if folks are interested.

On that note, I'm going to see if I can make my own book cover. We'll see how that comes out.

Until next time - which hopefully won't take 6 months to happen - I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Bob

A lot has happened!

Okay, a ton has happened. First of all - how the heck did almost a month go by since my last post? I would have sworn that I put something up like two weeks ago. Yet...here we are.

Okay - a bunch has happened.  I published book 6 in the Barriers series - Goddess Exposed.

I ALSO published book 7 in the Barriers series - Family Bonds.

Then, just to mix things up, I published books 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the Tainted series.

Book 1 - Unwilling Sacrifice

Book 2 - Finding Center

Book 3 - Keeping Balance

Book 4 - Bringing Balance

Book 5 has been finished and edited and I'm waiting on the cover to be done, so that one might be out in the next week.

Phew! That's a ton. I even have some folks buying copies of things, which is very exciting. I don't even know if anyone has read any of these other than me, but let me just say that it's pretty cool to know that people actually bought a book I put out. That's so crazy exciting. Even though the numbers aren't exactly trail blazing, it's still an awesome feeling.

Now, beyond that? I'm editing a trilogy that's currently the Still Waters series, although that's subject to change. The stories are a little shorter, but I rather enjoyed writing them.

From there? From there, I think I'll go to one of my longer series of 5 or 6 books and see if anyone likes those. I have a few to choose from, so that'll be a decision for later.

That's enough for now. I hope everyone's safe out there with the virus still tearing at folks. I'm praying this doesn't become a normal thing for the world, because this is SO not as much fun as a zombie movie makes things seem :)

Have a great night!

Bob

Book Five is Now Out - and Updates

Okay - book five in the Barriers series, Birth and Rebirth is now available on Amazon.  I hope everyone likes it as much as I loved reading it.

I've been able to confirm that the cover artist is save and doing well, so that's a huge weight off of my mind. I had been worried after not hearing from him that he got sucked into the craziness going on out there.

He'll be working on the cover for book six in the next week, then hopefully seven the following week.

I have another artist working on the cover for a new series that I have to think about placement.  It's a bit heavier on sex and has some graphic scenes in it that way, so I'm not sure I can put it into the same categories without upsetting people. I'm still checking into that, so I'm crossing my fingers I have a good direction to head in.

Then I'll start editing a third series to see what I can get out there in April.

That's on top of more writing. It should be a busy month that way.

I hope everyone's staying safe out there!

Bob

General update

All righty, it's been a little bit since I posted an update.

In general, and for the sake of at least a little posterity, the current coronavirus is still plaguing everyone.  No one in my family has it, so that's a plus (so far).  We may have had it in late February/early March before everything went sideways, but we're not positive about that. So we're social isolating like everyone else. That's fun with six kids, but we're making it.

From a writing standpoint?

Book five, six, and seven are through editing.  I'm waiting on the cover designer to get back to me, but I rather fear that he's having issues with the virus. No contact recently, so I'm praying he's okay. And no - not for my covers, for him. I can go to someone else to pick up if I wanted to push it.

Otherwise? I have book eight started, but not finished.  At the same time, I'm doing final editing on book two in another series.  I'm questioning how to market that one.  Someone mentioned the sex in book one of Barriers, but it's nothing like what's in this other series. It's way more graphic and kinda integral to what's happening with the character. I'm hoping to get book 1 and 2 published at the same time (possibly 3 as well).

Then I have to look at my other series and see where I should go. I have some that I looove that I'm not sure if others will enjoy them - but I want them out there anyway, you know? Who knows, maybe one of my ebook babies will connect with someone. I'm hoping so.

That's it for now - I hope everyone is safe.

Bob

Book Four is now out!

Okay, book four in the Barriers series is now out. Coming Home is now available through Amazon.

Moving beyond this news, I'm working on printed copies of book one, although I'm running into some formatting issues that I have to work through. I'm also continuing to edit book seven. I'm waiting on designs for the cover of book five and have book six waiting as well.  We'll see how long it takes to get those out there.

Then I have to work on another series to see what may interest people. I have a number to choose from, so now I have to narrow it down to the one that I think will do well with folks. That may be an issue, since the April camp for NaNoWriMo is coming here in a few days.  For those of you not familiar with it? I recommend going to take a look. Especially if you're a wannabe writer that keeps pushing things off. I've found that the April and July camps seem more interesting than the classic November one, so...go take a look? Hit me up out there, I'm listed as FuquayBob. Who knows, maybe we'll be in the same group!

Bob

Book Three is Officially Released!

All right, now books one through three are posted and available on Amazon. I'm working with the cover designer on book four. I ran into some design issues based on what I was going for and have had to change up what I originally intended. We'll see if we can get it finalized between today/tomorrow.

I'm still editing book six and hope to be done by the end of the day. Then I'll start working on seven.

Then I'll have to make a decision on what to do - continue writing eight? Or start editing a book in another series so that I can have two out there at the same time? I'm up in the air about that, so we'll see where things land.

I hope everyone's staying safe out there.
